Header

The new world screwworm has reappeared in several countries of the region, raising concerns about its impact on human and animal health and biodiversity. While it has historically been addressed from an animal health perspective, its relationship with wildlife poses new challenges. Some species can act as reservoirs or vectors, facilitating their spread. This situation calls for a coordinated response that integrates the animal health, environmental and conservation sectors. A ‘One Health’ approach is key to the prevention, surveillance and control of this disease.
