Celebrating One Health day: successful experiences in the Americas

Header

Introduction

One Health is considered an essential approach to addressing the interconnected challenges between human, animal and environmental health. In the Americas, this perspective is particularly relevant given the increase in zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the impacts of climate change on ecosystems.

Global governance has evolved to support this approach, with frameworks such as the Joint Action Plan of the Quadripartite (FAO, WHO, WOAH, and UNEP) and the creation of the One Health Expert Panel (OHHLEP). These instruments promote international coordination, the generation of scientific evidence, and the formulation of coherent public policies.

Latin America and the Caribbean have the opportunity to align themselves with these initiatives, adapting them to their local contexts and enabling integrated, multisectoral responses through collaboration between ministries of health, agriculture, environment, and other key actors.

Taking the One Health Community of Practice as a starting point, the International One Health Day is the kick-off for this regional webinar, which aims to share successful experiences and discuss opportunities for incorporating this approach into national policies.
