Multisectoral Coordination Meeting for the Appropriate Use of Antimicrobials in Argentina

On March 6, the First Multisectoral Coordination Meeting for the Appropriate Use of Antimicrobials in Argentina took place in Buenos Aires, jointly coordinated by PAHO and the Ministry of Health of Argentina.

The opening speech was shared by Dr. Maureen Birminghan, Representative of PAHO-WHO Argentina, Dr. Carla Vizzotti, Secretary of Access to Health of the Ministry of Health of Argentina, Dr. Martin Minassian, Technical Assistant of the OIE Regional Representation for the Americas and Dr. Marisa Caipo, Food Safety and Quality Officer of the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Dr. Pilar Ramon Pardo and Dr. José Luis Castro, from PAHO Washington, were invited to characterize the regional situation of the AMR within the framework of the regional and global plans.

Different topics were discussed starting with the Global AMR Situation and the tools for its monitoring GLASS and WHONET. Current research projects on the topic were also presented. The Cooperation Project between countries for Sanitary Development (CCHD) between the Veterinary Service of Argentina, SENASA, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina was also dicussed. This project seeks to strengthen the laboratory capacities of 14 Caribbean countries.

More multisectorial meetings will be held along the year, in order to further strengthen the Argentine fight against Antimicrobial Resistance
