On March 11, 2020, the OIE Regional Representation for the Americas participated in the coordination meeting of the Annual Operational Plan of the Permanent Veterinary Committee of the Southern Cone (CVP). This Committee coordinates the actions of the Veterinary Services of 6 OIE Member Countries in the OIE’s Americas Region: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
In 2004, a cooperation agreement was signed between the OIE and the CVP. In this agreement, the OIE undertook to assist in harmonising animal health legislation and regulations; designing and implementing epidemiological surveillance, animal disease notification and health information systems; establishing standards for the exchange of animals and their products; and strengthening Veterinary Services by supporting the organisation of training workshops and education in veterinary and agri-food universities.
During the meeting, which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, dates and activities were established in relation to the CVP’s ad hoc groups on Antimicrobial Resistance, strengthening of the Veterinary Services, and the movement of horses of excellent health status and high performance. In addition, it was agreed in the inclusion of discussed the introduction of topics related to the revision of OIE standards in Animal Welfare in this planning to the Annual Operational Plan of the CVP.
