From 17 to 19 February, 2020 took place in Panama City the Regional Workshop on the New World Animal Health Information System (OIE-WAHIS) for the OIE National Focal Points for Animal Disease Notification for the Americas.
The objective of this workshop was to improve the understanding of notification requirements and the nature of information provided to the OIE for better notification of animal diseases and disease events using the OIE-WAHIS online platform.
OIE-WAHIS, will have new technological features aimed at improving the collection and dissemination of animal disease data.
The regional workshop provided participants with information on the role and responsibilities of the Veterinary Services or other competent authorities in the notification of animal diseases to the OIE. Also, the specific tasks of OIE national focal points in this field were reminded. Finally, differences in the notification process using the new OIE–WAHIS platform were highlighted. On the last day, the focal points interacted with the training platform introducing real information to test the platform and facilitate its future use.
