On Tuesday 23 May, during the 90th General Session of WOAH World Assembly of Delegates, Dr. Luis Barcos, Regional Representative for the Americas, presented the region’s experience on antimicrobial resistance and use.
During his presentation, Dr. Barcos highlighted the existing collaboration between international and regional organizations in the region. Since 2018, monthly meetings have been taking place in the
Americas with FAO and PAHO teams, with the participation of other regional and subregional organisations such as OIRSA, IICA, CVP and CAN.
“During these five years of joint work, we have been able to achieve a great level of interaction between the organisations. This joint work has become a reference model for inter-agencies coordination”, mentioned Dr. Barcos.
Moreover, he presented the two projects on AMR that are currently been implemented in the region:
Given the success of these two projects, Dr Barcos mentioned that the region will continue to seek for partners to keep addressing this urgent matter and support countries in the implementation of their national action plans.
