Progress and challenges in integrated AMR surveillance

As a follow-up to the theoretical-practical “Training on phenotypic methods, screening tests and molecular methods applied to the diagnosis of Antimicrobial Resistance in the framework of One Health” held during 2022 together with the Antimicrobial Service of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (INEI) – ANLIS “Dr. Carlos G. Malbrán” of Argentina, we held a follow-up virtual meeting on 7 June.

During this meeting, representatives from the countries that participated in the training delivered a brief presentation on the progress and challenges they have faced after participating in the course.

Dr. Alejandra Corso from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases ANLIS “Dr. Carlos G. Malbrán” stressed the importance of intersectoral work to effectively address integrated surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in countries.

Dr. Maria Mesplet, Project Officer, highlighted the progress made by the countries after the training and invited them to continue working on this important issue within the One Health framework.

About the project “Working Together to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance”

To strengthen the control of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the Americas region, tripartite (WOAH, FAO and PAHO) is implementing the project “Working Together to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance” funded by the European Union. The seven beneficiary countries of the project are: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

The objective of this project is to support the selected countries in the implementation of their National Action Plans (NAP), share experiences, advocate best practices and promote collaboration.
