The GF‑TADs Regional Steering Committee for the Americas meeting was held virtually on April 17. The role of the GF‑TADs as a well‑established mechanism for regional coordination was highlighted, even in contexts of limited resources. Likewise, the need to strengthen strategic planning, improve interinstitutional coordination, and optimize resource use through synergies between international organizations and countries was emphasized.
In recent years, countries in the Region of the Americas have faced particularly complex health challenges, marked by the emergence and evolution of various high‑priority transboundary diseases, including highly pathogenic avian influenza, African swine fever, classical swine fever, and the New World screwworm. In response to these threats, with the support of WOAH, FAO, and other regional and subregional organisations, multiple prevention, preparedness, and control strategies have been developed and implemented, based both on current international standards and on technical recommendations arising from the various GF‑TADs meetings.
This meeting included the participation of representatives from organizations, agencies, and international, regional, and subregional entities associated with the GF‑TADs, such as WOAH, FAO, IICA, OIRSA, PAHO‑PANAFTOSA, SG‑CAN, CVP, CaribVET, CAHFSA, OIPORC, ALA, and CDC.
